What is Labo International Exchange Foundation
Established in May 1973, the Labo International Exchange Foundation (L.I.E.F.), under the auspices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has acted as a non-profit organization dedicated to encouraging Japanese youth to act as good international citizens, to promote daily and continual contact between people of different nations, and to build lasting ties of friendship between the peoples of the world so as to contribute to the maintenance of world peace. The Tokyo Institute for Advanced Studies of Language (T.I.A.S.L.) was established in 1966 fof the purpose of furthering the advancement of linguistics through the promotion of basic reserch and fundamental education in this field. Since its foundation, T.I.A.S.L. has offered courses on theoretical linguistics directed by a steering committee of leading Japanese linguists. The Labo Japanese Language Institute was established in October 1987 to respond to the needs created by the increased scope and frequency of contact between Japanese citizens and foreigners and to respond to the increased need for quality Japanese language education. Since its creation, we have offered Japanese language courses and trained instructors wishing to teach Japanese as a foreign language.
